Legal Aspects

Introduction

Under review

Physicians are practicing their profession within societies increasingly defined as legal entities.

In Québec, medical practice is subject to various legal provisions, because the latter either concern the health sector, or provide a framework for professional relations, or apply to all citizens. This section first presents an overview of the laws that may affect the practice of medicine; it then focuses on medical civil liability and concludes with a presentation of the laws imposing very specific obligations on physicians.

These legal provisions share a common purpose: to ensure a framework conducive to the provision of the best possible health care services, while ensuring respect for each and every person.
